Installation Instructions for Blue HDPE Pipe Coils

Here is a brief overview of the installation process of HDPE pipe:

  1. Preparation:
    • Site Evaluation: Inspect the installation site to ensure it is free from sharp objects, rocks, or debris that could damage the pipe during uncoiling and installation.
    • Handling: Use appropriate lifting equipment and techniques to handle and position the HDPE Blue Pipe coils. Avoid dragging the coils across rough surfaces to prevent abrasions.
  2. Uncoiling:
    • Secure the Coil: Place the HDPE coil on a flat surface and secure it to prevent unintended rolling or movement.
    • Uncoiling Method: Carefully uncoil the pipe to prevent kinking or twisting. Use a coil dispenser where available for more manageable and controlled uncoiling.
  3. Pipe Laying:
    • Trench Preparation: Dig a trench to the required depth and width, following local regulations and standards for bedding and cover requirements. Ensure the trench bottom is smooth and free of sharp objects.
    • Pipe Alignment: Lay the pipe in the trench, ensuring it is aligned and level. Avoid sharp bends and use appropriate fittings where directional changes are necessary.
    • Joining: Use approved HDPE fittings for any connections, ensuring each joint is properly made according to the manufacturer's instructions. For electrofusion or butt fusion joining methods, clean the pipe ends thoroughly before proceeding with the fusion process.
  4. Backfilling:
    • Initial Backfill: Begin backfilling with select material, free of large rocks and debris, and compact around the pipe to provide adequate support. Avoid using heavy machinery directly over the pipeline during the initial backfill stages.
    • Final Backfill: Once the initial backfill is in place and compacted, continue to backfill the trench to surface level, compacting in layers to avoid any voids or loose soil that could lead to uneven settling.
  5. Testing & Inspection:
    • Pressure Testing: After installation, conduct a pressure test to verify the integrity of the pipeline. Ensure the test is performed according to industry standards and local regulations.
    • Inspection: Conduct a thorough inspection of the pipeline to ensure it meets all installation and safety requirements. Address any issues identified during the inspection before putting the pipeline into service.
  6. Completion:
    • Site Restoration: Restore the site to its original condition, ensuring the trench area is evenly backfilled and compacted. Remove any installation debris and equipment from the site.

Safety Note:

Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation.
Follow all local regulations and standards related to HDPE pipe installation.

Installation Tips:

Avoid installing HDPE pipe in extreme temperatures. If necessary, pre-condition the pipe to the ambient temperature.
Ensure that all pipe and fitting surfaces are clean and dry before joining.
Use only manufacturer-approved tools and equipment for the cutting, joining, and handling of HDPE pipe.
