MLCP Pipe

MLCP or multilayer composite pipe is formed of multiple plastic and metal material layers.

FRÄNKISCHE Alpex-Duo XS pipe is manufactured with a cross-linked polyethylene inner layer, an aluminium mid-layer, and a stabilised polyethylene outer layer.

This combination of layers provides resistance to oxygen diffusion and corrosion, and a low level of thermal expansion compared to other plastic piping systems, although on a similar level to copper.

Using MLCP removes the need for hot working, which is a major advantage where health and safety is concerned and also means a reduction in labour costs, plus there is no reduction in the quality of the pipe finish.

Due to the strong but flexible nature of MLCP, longer pipe runs can be created versus other pipework systems, meaning the number of fittings required can be reduced significantly.

Why use MLCP?

  • Flexible and durable - the pipe can be shaped by hand, without the need for any tools, yet maintains its form with no snap-back, with less fittings required due to longer possible pipe runs.
  • Speed - as MLCP can be supplied in coils, it can easily be threaded into and through the walls of a building.
  • Hygienic - the smooth surface resists any deposits in the pipe. The pipe is also capped after manufacture to protect against bacteria and other contaminants.
  • Oxygen diffusion resistant - the aluminium layer acts as a complete oxygen barrier, preventing corrosion of the pipe.
  • No hot works - installations save time, money, and health and safety paperwork.
  • Theft deterrent - unlike copper, for example, MLCP has no scrap value.
