Fernco Single Flap Backwater Valve
Useful Information
What is a Backwater Valve Used For?
The Fernco (previously known as Flexseal) Single Flap Backwater Valve, is designed to protect buildings from backwater flooding. It is installed in drainage systems to allow free flow of sewer or surface water in one direction while blocking the backflow in instances of flooding. This is crucial in preventing rainwater from traveling back up the sewerage system into buildings.

How and Where to Install
The Fernco Single Flap Backwater Valve is designed for straightforward installation:
- Location: Install the valve in-line along the drainage system, ideally where it can effectively block backflow.
- Direction: Ensure that it is oriented to allow the free flow of wastewater in the direction of the system mains.
- Accessibility: Place the valve in a location where its lid can be easily removed for inspection when necessary.
Difference Between Single and Double Flap Backwater Valves
- Single Flap Valve: Contains one flap that blocks backflow. It is typically suitable for smaller-scale or less complex drainage systems where backflow pressure is moderate.
- Double Flap Valve: Features two flaps for added security and efficiency, ideal for systems that experience higher backflow pressures or require more robust protection.
