How and Where to Install a Non-Return Valve
Installation of the Fernco Non-Return Valve involves the following steps:
- Safety Precautions: Ensure safety when opening an inspection chamber or manhole, which may require two people due to the weight of the manhole cover.
- Determine Flow Direction: Once the manhole cover is lifted, identify the direction of flow, typically by flushing a toilet in the property.
- Select Installation Points: Install Non-Return Valves on each of the flow pipes from the property, avoiding the outlet of the chambers.
- Prepare Pipes: Clean the incoming pipes of any debris.
- Insert the Valve: Wear gloves and push the NRV into the pipe inlet mouth. Use pipe lubricant sparingly if required.
- Correct Positioning: Ensure the valve flap is positioned downwards and the hinge pivot point is horizontal.
- Unlock for Use: Make sure the locking mechanisms are unlocked for normal operation.
